On August 14, 2002 the Guatemalan parliament gave authority for Guatemala to become a party to the 1993 Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption. This action must be followed by Guatemala depositing its instrument of ratification to The Hague and a minimum of 3 months thereafter before the convention will enter into force for Guatemala. (It is not known when they intend to take this action).
Additionally Guatemala must now develop implementing legislation to be able to comply with its obligation under the convention.
Additional Info-Updates will be posted as confirmed information becomes
available.
