Family Reunification APIF is one of a very few agencies in Guatemala that provides family reunification services allowing the majority of children in care to return to their birth families. Assessment and intervention services, including work with extended family members for kinship care placement, investigations of neglect and abuse and post placement support, are provided to more than 100 children each year.
Child Care APIF operates a model childcare center in Guatemala City that provides temporary care annually to about 60 boys and girls between the ages of 0 to 7 years. Small and community based, the center is designed to reduce the negative impact of institutionalization and provide greater access to local services.
Foster Care APIF’s Foster Care Program provides a quality, family-like environment for infants and toddlers until they are placed in a permanent family. APIF created the Foster Care Program in 1997 recognizing the positive benefits of family-based care for children separated from their birth families. The program serves 20 children annually.
Intercountry Adoption Providing permanent families for children through adoptive placement is an integral focus of APIF. Children placed in adoptive families by APIF receive extensive assessment services to ensure that adoption is in the child’s best interest. Approximately 12 adoptive placements are made each year at APIF. |
