Ethiopia Adoptions with Holt International

Generous requirements open the door for a wide range of prospective parents. Ethiopia is also one of Holt’s least expensive and quickest adoption processes.

Ethiopian adoption is open for…
Married couples (married at least two years, up to two divorces)
Age 25-44
Having up to 5 children at home
With income above 125 percent of the poverty line
Childless couples and families with one girl must be open to either gender. Couples with a husband over 45 and a wife under 45 accepted on a case-by-case basis.

Eligibility criteria is flexible for families adopting waiting children. Waiting children from Ethiopia are often healthy toddlers and young school age children.

Travel
Both parents must travel to Ethiopia to receive the child. Parents stay in Ethiopia for approximately one week to complete processing.

Timeframe
Adoption from Ethiopia takes approximately 12 to 18 months from application to placement.
Timeframes may be shorter for those adopting a waiting child.
