Despite these changes Holt has gained the confidence of many countries and has often been asked to recommend policies to protect the rights of children, birth parents and adoptive parents. Holt's expertise has been sought by the United Nations and The Hague Convention on International Adoption Law. Holt has also conducted programs funded by the United States Agency for International Development.

In most cases Holt's children are in the care of associate agencies which were established and are operated with the support of Holt International. Holt will strive to ensure that your child receives excellent care and medical treatment, and Holt will report to you all information available to us about your child.

Scope of Service

Because Holt conducts programs in a number of countries, Holt offers alternatives which help ensure that you will be able to adopt a child. Holt also has branch offices serving six states and over 80 affiliated agencies throughout the United States.

Integrity Toward Adoptive Parents

Adoptive parents place themselves in a vulnerable position when they become emotionally attached to the possibility of adopting a child. However, Holt will not exploit this situation. Holt does not pressure parents to send extra money in support of their child's care or medical needs or to "expedite" the adoption. Children's needs are supported by generous donations from caring people, many of whom have already adopted. While waiting, however, prospective parents can touch the lives of children through contributions which are entirely separate from and have no influence on the adoption process.

Holt had a significant role in establishing international adoption, and has consistently helped define the standards by which adoption agencies serve children and families.

Sound and Efficient Financial Management

Holt's "management and general" and "fundraising" expenses are only 12 percent of its total annual expenses. Holt obtains an outside audit each year, and a copy of this audit is available upon request. Holt is a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability.
